A new comedy filled with family drama, rural life, and plenty of laughs is coming to Theatre Tillsonburg this spring.
The local theatre company is preparing for its production of Having Hope at Home, a play written by Toronto playwright David S. Craig. Set on an Ontario dairy farm, the story explores family conflict, generational differences, and relationships many audience members may recognize from their own lives.
Cast member, Brad Carson said the play is packed with conflict and awkward moments that turn into comedy, adding the characters are well written and performed, joking, “if I do say so myself… and I just did.” Fellow actor Kelly Verhoeve agreed.
Carson, who is appearing in his first Theatre Tillsonburg production after more than 20 years away from the stage, he plays the role of Russel Bingham, grumpy, sharp, and secretly lovable.
Verhoeve, who said this is her third time acting on stage after previously helping behind the scenes, takes on the role of Jane Bingham the mother of the family.
Both cast member’s praised the local theatre and a great way to spend an evening, Carson added audiences are looking for opportunities to relax together.
The farm setting and family-focused story will likely resonate with many residents in the Tillsonburg area, especially those with agricultural backgrounds. Carson described the wide appeal of the play.
Both performers also highlighted the strong sense of community built around the theatre and encouraged residents to support local live productions. Performances of Having Hope at Home are scheduled at Theatre Tillsonburg from May 28 to 31 and June 4 to 7.
