Bobbi Ann Brady is encouraging residents to support a petition calling on the Ontario government to take action regarding the federal government’s planned firearms confiscation program.
In a social media post, Brady reminded supporters that Ontario legislative petitions still require physical signatures rather than electronic submissions. Residents wishing to support the petition are being asked to print, sign, and mail completed copies to her constituency office in Simcoe.
The petition has also been promoted by the National Firearms Association, which says the initiative is intended to push the provincial government to provide clarity and protections for lawful firearms owners.
According to the association, the petition raises concerns about uncertainty surrounding firearms licence revocations and the possible impact of a future federal confiscation initiative proposed by the government of Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The petition specifically calls on the Ontario government to direct the Ontario Chief Firearms Office to clarify whether firearms licences could be revoked for individuals who do not participate in the federal program.
It also urges Ontario to adopt policies similar to measures introduced in provinces such as Alberta and Saskatchewan, which have already announced positions regarding enforcement and protections for firearms owners.
Brady says lawful firearms owners deserve fairness, certainty, and clear communication from government officials regarding how future regulations may be enforced.
The National Firearms Association is encouraging Ontario residents to print and submit the petition to demonstrate public support for provincial action on the issue.
Additional information and downloadable copies of the petition are available through National Firearms Association.
