Norfolk OPP are continuing to investigate after two overdue boaters were found deceased in Lake Erie Monday afternoon.
Police say a 7-year-old child and a 53-year-old adult, both from Norfolk County, were reported overdue near St. Williams, prompting a response from emergency crews shortly before 4 p.m.
Members of the Norfolk County OPP, along with the Canadian Coast Guard based out of Port Dover, responded to the area near Townline Street after receiving the report at approximately 3:46 p.m.
While crews were searching the area, the two individuals were located in the water by a passing boater approximately two nautical miles offshore. The Canadian Coast Guard attended the scene and recovered both individuals from the lake.
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the identities of those involved.
The OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team is assisting with the investigation as officers continue working to determine what happened.
Authorities say more information will be released as it becomes available.
