Residents looking to safely dispose of sensitive documents will have an opportunity to do so this weekend during a community shredding event hosted by Crime Stoppers of Haldimand and Norfolk.
The event is scheduled for Saturday behind the TD Bank on Queensway in Simcoe and will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
Organizers say community members can bring personal and financial documents for secure on-site shredding provided by Norfolk Shredding. The service is available for $10 per banker’s box.
The event is designed to help residents protect themselves against identity theft and fraud by ensuring confidential information is properly destroyed rather than discarded in household garbage or recycling.
Crime Stoppers officials say document shredding events have become an increasingly important tool in promoting fraud prevention and community awareness around personal information security.
Residents are encouraged to arrive early, as demand for the service can sometimes lead to lineups throughout the morning.
