A fun and friendly competition in Caledonia is helping support a serious cause.
Students and staff from several local schools teamed up with the Child Nutrition Network of Haldimand Norfolk R.E.A.C.H. for the first-ever Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Decorating Contest. The event took place Monday at a Tim Hortons on Argyle Street as part of the 2026 Smile Cookie Campaign.
Seven Caledonia-area schools took part, decorating cookies to raise awareness and support for student nutrition programs across Haldimand and Norfolk.
“Tim Hortons’ support has truly made a difference to our area nutrition programs,” said Community Facilitator Sharon Smyth. “Their help isn’t just a contribution, but a lasting gesture that shows how much they care about the health and well-being of local students.”
The Child Nutrition Network helps feed more than 10,000 students through breakfast, lunch, and snack programs, ensuring kids are ready to learn each day.
St. Patrick’s Catholic Elementary School Principal Amy Smith took first place with a pink and blue cookie, earning a handcrafted wooden trophy.
“Student well-being is foundational to learning,” added Director of Education Mike McDonald. “Initiatives like this show the power of community coming together to support local families.”
Smile Cookies are available until May 3, with 100 per cent of proceeds supporting local charities.
