Nomination period for the 2026 municipal election in Norfolk County opens Friday, May 1, giving prospective candidates several months to file their paperwork. Residents can run for Mayor, one of eight Councillor seats across seven wards, or one of four School Board Trustee positions.
To be eligible, mayoral and council candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, and meet residency or property ownership requirements within the county. School board trustee candidates must also meet age and citizenship requirements, live within the board’s jurisdiction, and meet specific voter eligibility rules tied to the board.
The nomination process requires candidates to complete official forms, file them in person with the Clerk’s office, and pay a nomination fee ranging from $100 to $200 depending on the position. The filing deadline is 2:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026, with appointments required to submit nomination packages in advance.
Norfolk County is also directing potential candidates to an online information session and resources outlining election rules, campaign guidelines, and key dates. Officials are encouraging early registration and preparation as the 2026 municipal election cycle gets underway.
