The Simcoe and District Humane Society has announced it will stop accepting new dogs until further notice due to a lack of space, volunteers, and funding.
The shelter says the past three months have been especially busy, putting pressure on available kennels and resources. As a result, staff and volunteers made the difficult decision to pause dog intakes to ensure the animals currently in their care continue to receive proper attention.
The organization is now calling on the community for support. Donations are needed to help cover the cost of food, supplies, medical care, training, and spay or neuter surgeries.
There is also an urgent need for volunteers, particularly for morning shifts from 6:30 a.m. to noon and evening shifts from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Those who have already applied are encouraged to reach out for scheduling details.
