The Ontario Provincial Police are speaking out about a video circulating on social media connected to a situation in Norwich Township.
Police say officers attended a residence on April 3 under the authority of a valid court order. The call was related to a family dispute involving the care of an elderly individual, a situation officers describe as both sensitive and complex.
The OPP emphasize that no enforcement action has been taken in connection with the incident. They add their role is strictly limited to enforcing the court order and ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
Officials also addressed misinformation circulating online, clarifying that the situation is not related to Canada’s medical assistance in dying legislation. Police stress they have no role in authorizing, administering, or facilitating MAID.
The OPP are urging members of the public to avoid speculation and to be mindful of the privacy of those involved. Due to the personal nature of the case, no further details are being released.
Anyone with questions about the legal authority of court orders is encouraged to contact the Ministry of the Attorney General.
