Norfolk County residents can begin their spring cleanup as the annual yard waste collection program gets underway this week.
The program provides a seasonal curbside option for disposing of leaves, grass clippings, and other yard debris as warmer weather arrives.
Collection will take place on regular waste days based on designated zones, with Simcoe and Long Point included in the first week.
Communities in Zone 2 and Zone 3—including Port Dover, Delhi, Waterford, and surrounding areas—will see collection begin next week.
Residents are reminded that all yard waste must be placed in brown paper leaf bags, as plastic bags will not be accepted.
Officials say this helps ensure materials can be processed properly and reduces contamination in the waste stream.
In addition to curbside pickup, the County encourages residents to consider alternative methods such as composting at home or mulching leaves into lawns.
Yard waste can also be dropped off at transfer stations in Simcoe and South Walsingham.
Officials are also urging residents to keep yard waste off roads and neighbouring properties. Placing leaves or grass on streets is prohibited under local bylaw, as it can clog storm drains, create slippery conditions for drivers, and interfere with street sweeping operations.
More information about the program, including schedules and guidelines, is available on the Norfolk County website.
