Residents across parts of southwestern Ontario are being urged to stay away from waterways as high water levels continue following recent rain and melting snow.
The Long Point Region Conservation Authority has extended its Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety for the entire watershed. Officials say no flooding is expected at this time, but rivers and streams remain higher and faster than normal.
Authorities warn that slippery banks and cold, fast-moving water can create dangerous conditions. Residents are advised to keep a safe distance from ditches, creeks, ponds, and rivers.
Landowners are also encouraged to check that dams, culverts, and catch basins are clear of debris and working properly, but only if the work can be done safely.
Meanwhile, flood warnings remain in place in parts of the Grand River watershed. The Grand River Conservation Authority says warnings continue for several communities including West Montrose, Cambridge, Ayr, Brant County, Brantford, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Haldimand County.
Officials say water levels remain high due to recent rainfall and snowmelt, and residents should continue to monitor conditions and follow safety guidance.
