The Government of Ontario says elementary school teachers will soon receive direct funding to help cover the cost of classroom supplies.
Premier Doug Ford announced the new Classroom Supplies Fund, which will provide elementary homeroom teachers with access to $750 each school year to purchase materials for their classrooms.
The program will be introduced as part of the province’s 2026 budget and is intended to reduce the number of teachers paying for classroom materials out of their own pockets.
Beginning in September 2026, teachers will be able to access the funding through a provincial website where they can order supplies that will be delivered directly to their schools.
According to the province, the online catalogue will include commonly used classroom items such as writing supplies, notebooks, calculators, arts and crafts materials, chalk, tissues and paper towels.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy said the program is part of the government’s broader investment in the province’s education system.
Education Minister Paul Calandra said the fund is designed to ensure funding reaches classrooms directly.
Officials say feedback from teachers and school boards will help determine which supplies are available through the program.
The government says further details about the initiative will be included when Ontario releases its 2026 budget on March 26.
