West Haldimand General Hospital has fully implemented a new digital pre-triage tool in its Emergency Department, helping speed up care and improve the patient experience.
Following a pilot launched in May 2025, the hospital has made EmergConnect part of daily operations. The secure self-registration system allows patients to enter symptoms and medical history on their own device or a hospital tablet before seeing a triage nurse.
Since launching, the tool has been used in 59 per cent of visits, supporting more than 7,000 patients. WHGH reports triage times have dropped by 27 to 50 per cent, and 78 per cent of nurses say it reduces administrative workload.
“We are proud to bring forward innovative solutions that improve the patient experience,” said Kim Mullins, Vice-President of Clinical and Chief Nursing Executive.
WHGH sees nearly 19,000 emergency visits annually. Patients may still choose to speak directly with a triage nurse if preferred.
