The Norfolk Hericanes U18 team is celebrating a major tournament victory after capturing the championship at the 44th Annual Walter Gretzky Tournament.
The prestigious event, named in honour of the late Walter Gretzky — known as “Canada’s Hockey Dad” — draws talented youth teams from across the province.
This year’s tournament proved to be a showcase of high-level competition, and the Hericanes rose to the occasion.
Throughout the weekend, the U18 squad demonstrated strong teamwork, disciplined play and consistent effort, advancing through the bracket to earn a spot in the championship game.
There, they faced a skilled Waterloo team and delivered a standout performance to secure the title.
Coaches say the win reflects the group’s commitment to one another and the culture of hard work within the Hericanes program.
The championship marks the second tournament victory of the season for the U18 athletes, highlighting what has already been an impressive year.
Beyond the trophy, the win represents valuable experience for the players as they continue to develop their skills and compete at a high level.
The organization says it is proud of the team’s perseverance and the sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.
