Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of significant rainfall and freezing rain expected across the region on Wednesday.
Meteorologists say a low-pressure system is forecast to bring 10 to 25 millimetres of rain, along with several hours of freezing rain.
Ice accumulations of 2 to 5 millimetres are possible in some areas.
The weather event is expected to begin early Wednesday morning and continue into the evening. While there remains uncertainty about the system’s exact track, officials warn that conditions could become hazardous.
Roads and sidewalks may become icy and slippery, and travel delays are possible. Localized power outages could also occur due to ice buildup on power lines and tree branches.
Environment Canada also warns of potential flash flooding and water pooling on roadways, particularly in low-lying areas and locations with poor drainage.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely and take precautions if travelling. For flooding concerns, the public is advised to consult their local conservation authority.
Environment Canada says additional warnings may be issued as the storm system approaches.
