Norfolk County is reminding residents about program changes and facility closures for Family Day, taking place Monday, February 16, while also highlighting a wide range of recreational opportunities available throughout the day.
Families are invited to attend a free Family Day celebration at the Simcoe Recreation Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will include s’mores by the fire, crafts and games, and interactive activities hosted by Norfolk County Fire and the Norfolk County Public Library. The event is weather-dependent and pre-registration is recommended by February 15 at norfolkcounty.ca/Encore. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Swimming opportunities will also be available at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre, offering a mix of free, sponsored, and paid swims throughout the day. The schedule includes Lengths Swim from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., Leisure Swim from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Aquafit from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m., Family Swim from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (free, sponsored by the Cornerstone Association of Realtors), Lengths and Leisure from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and Public Swim from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Cornerstone Association of Realtors).
Several skating opportunities will be offered across Norfolk County, with free skates sponsored by local service clubs. At Delhi Arena, Public Skate runs from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Kin Club of Delhi), followed by Family Sticks & Pucks from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Teen Shinny from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. At Langton Arena, Public Skate takes place from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. (free, sponsored by the LP Lioness Lions Club).
At Port Dover Arena, activities include 18+ Adult Skate from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Parent & Tot Skate from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. (free, sponsored by the Port Dover Lions), Public Skate from 1:00 to 1:50 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Port Dover Lions), and Family Sticks & Pucks from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Port Dover Lions). At Talbot Gardens, Adult Skate runs from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Parent & Child Hockey Skate from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and Public Skate from 2:00 to 2:50 p.m. At Waterford Tricenturena, Parent & Child Hockey Skate (Grades 4 and under) runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Waterford Lions), Public Skate from 1:00 to 1:50 p.m. (free, sponsored by the Waterford Lions), and 15+ Shinny from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
While recreational activities will be available, most municipal services will be closed for the holiday. All county administration buildings, ServiceNorfolk locations, museums, archives, libraries, Ride Norfolk, and transfer stations will be closed. Fire and paramedic services will continue to operate as usual, and digital library resources remain available online.
Waste collection in Simcoe will proceed as normal, while collection in the rest of Norfolk County will be delayed by one day. Residents with urgent issues related to roads, water, sewer, or facilities are encouraged to call 1-877-298-5888, while by-law concerns can be directed to the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.
