The Norfolk General Hospital Foundation has a new Executive Director, and for Sarah Muntz-Flowerday, the role is deeply personal.
Muntz-Flowerday was announced earlier this month and recently sat down to talk about why leading the foundation matters so much to her. Her connection to Norfolk General Hospital spans generations.
Her sister has worked at the hospital since she was a teenager, and her father once served as a hospital board member. Muntz-Flowerday herself has worked at the hospital for nearly 27 years in a wide range of departments.
She also shared that her husband passed away at the hospital, where she witnessed firsthand the care and effort staff provided.
Muntz-Flowerday says that personal history drives her passion for fundraising and community engagement. She wants residents to better understand that hospital equipment is not funded by the government and relies on community support.
Looking ahead, she hopes to strengthen reoccurring monthly giving and find new ways to connect with people moving into the community.
One idea being explored is a healthcare homecoming-style event to welcome newcomers and invite them to support local care.
With the new year underway, Muntz-Flowerday says, “Look out, 2026 — here comes the foundation.”
