Norfolk County is set to begin major rehabilitation work on two key Big Creek bridges this year, improving safety and infrastructure for local drivers.
The first project involves the Big Creek 6th Concession Bridge, located approximately 0.40 km west of Highway 59 near Walsingham, with work planned from May to August 2026.
The rehabilitation will include bridge deck replacement, barrier and railing upgrades, concrete repairs, road and asphalt restoration, and associated traffic control, with 6th Concession Road closed to local traffic at the bridge and a detour via 7th Concession Road, Hazen Road, and Highway 59.
This project carries a construction budget of $1,550,000, and Norfolk County staff emphasize efforts to minimize public disruption during the work.
The second project focuses on the Big Creek Road 60 Bridge and Overflow Culvert, located approximately 1.95 km west of Highway 59, with construction scheduled from July to December.
Planned work includes bridge deck and barrier replacement, concrete repairs, guide rail installation, road and asphalt restoration, and traffic control, with Road 60 closed to local traffic at the bridge and culvert and a detour routed via 6th Concession Road, Norfolk County Road 23, and Highway 59.
The estimated construction budget for this project is $1,859,000, and Norfolk County will continue to provide updates once contractors are awarded and work begins.
