A solemn anniversary passed over the weekend marking the death of OPP Constable Grzegorz “Greg” Pierzchala, who was fatally shot while responding to a call near Hagersville on December 27, 2022.
Constable Pierzchala, just 28 years old at the time, was responding to a report of a vehicle in a ditch when he was shot. He later died in hospital.
A member of the Ontario Provincial Police for just over a year, he was also a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces and was widely respected for his dedication and character.
His death deeply impacted communities across Ontario.
Premier Doug Ford described him as someone who “represented the very best of us,” while colleagues remembered him as a kind, committed officer with a promising future.
Two individuals — Randall McKenzie and Brandi Stewart-Sperry — were later charged and have since been found guilty of first-degree murder following a jury verdict delivered after more than six hours of deliberation.
Constable Pierzchala’s legacy continues to resonate across Ontario, where he is remembered not only for how he died, but for the dedication and compassion he showed while serving his community.
