Simcoe’s holiday season will get a cinematic boost as the Routes to Roots Film Festival presents a special screening of the 1954 Christmas classic White Christmas, featuring Bing Crosby and other iconic stars.
Jim Carroll, Vice Chair of the Routes to Roots Film Festival, says for many people this is a must watch holiday movie – and he hopes they will take this opportunity to see it on the big screen with friends and family.
Part of the reason for showing this film in particular is that it’s plot aligns with the vision of what the R2RFF is hoping to launch in the new year.
R2RFF is shifting gears in 2026.
Carroll said while the focus in previous years was highlighting incredible films from around the world, with a focus on small and independent movies, they are now turning the spotlight onto Norfolk County.
He added the theme encourages participants to explore ideas of inclusion, diversity, and belonging, giving local storytellers a platform to share their perspectives through film.
With the rise of YouTube, Tiktok, and social media – video storytelling from independent voices is everywhere and he wants to encourage Norfolk County residents to maybe step outside their comfort zone and put their ideas to film – or their cellphone.
The Routes to Roots Film Festival has been a Norfolk County tradition for nearly a decade, consistently working to highlight local talent and provide unique cultural experiences for the community.
This holiday screening promises to be a memorable way to celebrate the season, connect generations, and support the growth of local filmmaking talent.
