The Grand Erie District School Board is reporting another year of improved results on Ontario’s EQAO assessments, marking the third consecutive year of gains for students in Grades 3, 6 and 9.
According to newly released data, the board saw notable increases in reading, writing and math, with the strongest progress recorded in Grade 9 math, which rose nine percentage points over last year and 11 points over the past three years.
Board officials say the consistent improvement reflects strengthened instructional strategies, targeted literacy and numeracy supports, and a district-wide commitment to helping each student meet or exceed provincial expectations.
Director of Education Dr. JoAnna Roberto says the results highlight “curiosity in action, confident exploration, and creative, critical thinking” across schools, crediting educators, support staff and families for their collaborative approach.
While the board celebrated significant progress—such as Grade 3 math climbing to 60% and Grade 6 writing reaching 77%—officials say more work remains to further close gaps and improve outcomes for all learners.
The district’s 2025–26 learning plan will continue to emphasize early literacy, math content knowledge, stronger assessment tools, responsive intervention strategies, and pathways that support students on their way to graduation.
Trustees say the ongoing year-over-year improvement demonstrates Grand Erie’s journey of “excellence in motion,” reinforcing that every student can learn and reach their potential.
The board will continue using EQAO data to refine teaching practices, strengthen student supports, and ensure schools remain focused on preparing learners for long-term success.
