The latest Fall Economic Statement (FES) is receiving mixed reviews from Haldimand-Norfolk, with MPP Bobbi Ann Brady calling it a blend of “oranges and lemons.” After hearing from many local business leaders, she voted in favour of the FES at Third Reading, noting they supported several measures but also expected her to keep pushing for improvements.
On the “orange” side, Brady highlighted strong commitments to “Protecting Workers and Businesses,” including support for industries, social safety nets, a $30-billion tariff relief package, and the return of WSIB funds to eligible employers.
But she also pointed to the “lemon” side, stressing that local steelworkers still need protection. Brady urged Premier Doug Ford to scrap the proposed MZO that would allow a 40,000-person community to be built on the Nanticoke Industrial Park, saying it threatens jobs and public health.
The FES also includes $400 million for rural infrastructure. Brady hopes the Minister of Transportation will include projects like fixing Highway 6 and Haldibrook Road, as well as the long-delayed Argyle Street Bridge reconstruction.
