Ontario’s long-awaited EQAO standardized test results will be released next week, according to Education Minister Paul Calandra, who said Monday he delayed the data to conduct a more thorough analysis.
The results, which measure math and literacy performance among elementary and secondary students, are typically released in early fall.
Calandra said he wanted additional time to review the information after hearing concerns from teachers and spending months consulting with educators.
Opposition leaders accused the government of withholding important information from the public.
Liberals, Greens, and the NDP all raised concerns about transparency, with some suggesting the delay could signal performance issues.
Calandra would not comment on whether the results were strong or weak but hinted that changes to the EQAO system may be announced alongside next week’s release.
