Local agribusiness VandenBussche Irrigation is stepping up in a major way to support hurricane recovery efforts in Jamaica, donating more than $30,000 in supplies to help farmers rebuild after the island was devastated by Hurricane Melissa.
Working alongside Van Berlo Farm in Townsend, the company helped fill half of a 40-foot shipping container with essential materials destined for Montego Bay.
The shipment, set to depart this week, includes over 12 miles of drip line, two dozen rakes and shovels, nearly 10 acres of plastic mulch, and even a 10-foot mini sea container fitted with a door and window — a feature that’s already proven a hit with local workers in Jamaica.
Donations are still being accepted until Tuesday at Van Berlo Farm, 325 Concession 13, Townsend.
