Flames erupt following a welding mishap in Houghton.
On Tuesday (November 4th), the Norfolk County Fire Department responded to a barn fire in the Fairground area of Houghton Township.
The call came in at approximately 12:24 p.m., prompting three fire stations and about 20 firefighters to attend the scene.
Upon arrival, crews found one individual with burn injuries, who was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Fortunately, no firefighters were injured during the response.
Initial reports indicate the fire began after a small explosion occurred during welding operations outside the barn.
Firefighters were able to largely extinguish the blaze before it could spread, and damage was mostly limited to the exterior of the structure.
The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) is scheduled to attend the scene to investigate the cause further.
Preliminary estimates put the damage at approximately $10,000.
Officials remind residents to always exercise caution when performing welding or other high-risk tasks near structures and to contact the fire department immediately in case of an emergency.
