The Rotary Club of Simcoe and the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation are teaming up for a major centennial fundraiser that will improve patient comfort and safety for years to come.
To celebrate their shared 100th anniversaries, the two organizations have launched a matching campaign aiming to raise $100,000 for new hospital beds. The Rotary Club will match every community donation up to $50,000, bringing the total goal to $100,000.
Rotary President Dave Ferris says the partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Rotary and the hospital, which were both established in 1925.
Interim Foundation Executive Director Sarah Muntz-Flowerday says the funds will go toward purchasing advanced hospital beds costing more than $17,000 each.
The new beds feature temperature control and fall-risk alarms that connect with the hospital’s nurse-call system, allowing staff to monitor patients more safely and efficiently. Muntz-Flowerday said “they’re essential for quality care,” adding that some of the hospital’s current beds are over 20 years old.
The fundraiser will tie into the Foundation’s annual holiday campaign, beginning after Remembrance Day. Muntz-Flowerday added that equipment purchases rely entirely on community support.
She added that when you give to the Foundation, you’re directly helping your local hospital care for friends, family, and neighbours.
Community members can donate to the Rotary-NGH Bed Campaign through the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation’s website or by mail once the holiday appeal launches. Supporters can also take part in Rotary’s Catch the Ace draw, held every Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Simcoe Legion.
