The Port Dover Sailors are skating into form this season, and Head of Hockey Operations Mike Tobin says the team’s renewed focus and structure are paying off.
Tobin said it was a challenging start, to the season due to roster issues.
Even with the personnel issues they were able to keep many of the games close. The Sailors have bounced back, winning four of their last five games and climbing close to the .500 mark. Tobin credits improved depth, stronger communication, and a full bench for the turnaround. He says spirits and positive attitudes are up right now.
Head Coach Kevin Miket, is settling into his first full season behind the bench, bringing valuable experience from his time with St. Mary’s Junior B, Ancaster Junior B, and Glanbrook Junior C.
New additions, including goaltender Max Wilson and defenseman Adam McKillop, have bolstered the lineup. Tobin praised McKillop’s leadership and composure on the ice.
The Sailors’ next home game is Sunday (Nov. 2) at 2 p.m. against Hagersville, featuring a special guest — Matt Saddler, a young man with autism and a pitch-perfect voice who has performed anthems across Ontario to promote awareness and inclusion. Saddler will sing the national anthem, drop the puck, and announce the Sailors’ starting lineup.
