The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has concluded its probe into a July 1st incident in Brantford, where a man was confronted by police officers while brandishing a knife at customers at a local gas station.
The SIU’s investigation found that the officer acted within the law by deploying an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN) to subdue the suspect, who refused repeated commands to drop the knife.
The Complainant was struck in the abdomen but suffered only minor injuries and was subsequently taken into custody.
Interviews with witnesses, video evidence, and officer notes indicated that the use of the ARWEN was reasonable to protect both officers and the public.
The SIU concluded there are no grounds for criminal charges, as the officer’s actions were legally justified.
