Ontario’s government is proposing to eliminate fixed election dates and raise political donation limits to $5,000 per year.
Attorney General Doug Downey says the move would restore flexibility and allow governments to seek fresh mandates as needed.
The reforms would also make per-vote public subsidies for political parties permanent.
Opposition leaders are calling the changes self-serving and out of touch with Ontario’s current economic challenges.
