MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is calling on Premier Doug Ford to stand up for the nearly 1,200 steelworkers at Stelco’s Nanticoke mill.
Speaking in the Ontario Legislature, Brady urged the government to tear up Empire Homes’ Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) for the proposed Nanticoke Industrial Park, saying it threatens local jobs. She also pressed Ford to refocus his energy on protecting Ontario’s steel industry from foreign dumping and future tariffs.
“Domestic steel only supplies 35 percent of the Canadian market,” said Brady. “We should be working to capture the other 65 percent and safeguard Ontario jobs.”
Brady criticized the Premier’s ongoing feud with Cleveland-Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves, saying “outbursts aren’t helpful” with a new steel and aluminum deal on the horizon. She ended her remarks by challenging Ford to “be a superman” for Local 8782 and defend the Nanticoke mill’s future.
