The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have identified human remains found in a wooded area near Highway 6 in Haldimand County as belonging to 49-year-old Robert Sykes of Simcoe.
Investigators discovered the remains on Thursday, October 16, 2025, around 6:00 p.m., in a wooded area west of Caledonia, south of Stirling Street. A postmortem examination conducted the next day by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service confirmed the victim’s identity and ruled the death a homicide.
The Norfolk County OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, alongside the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. OPP Forensic Identification Services are also assisting.
