It’s Small Business Week on 98.9 myFM and Oldies 99.7 – presented by Venture Norfolk.
Today we are looking at Global Pet Food.
Norfolk County pet owners have a new spot to spoil their furry friends as Global Pet Food officially opened its doors in Simcoe late last month.
The store, part of Canada’s largest independently owned pet specialty chain, combines high-quality pet products with a focus on local offerings, expert advice, and personalized service.
Owner Grant Nelson shared that the decision to open a location in Simcoe grew out of his love for animals.
What sets Global apart, Nelson said, is its independence.
That sets them apart from a lot of other larger retailers.
In its first month, Global has already seen a strong turnout from residents checking out the store and exploring the variety of products available.
Nelson emphasized that many pet owners are loyal to their preferred brands, but the store’s loyalty reward programs provide an incentive to explore new options.
But many other places have similar loyalty programs, and he understands why some people are “waiting out” their programs before giving his store a try.
One thing he loves about the role is being there for the customer when they need it.
It’s not a matter of pointing to the dog food aisle, it’s about helping people find the right products.
Looking ahead, the Simcoe location is planning holiday-themed events, including a Halloween costume contest for pets and a curated selection of Christmas gifts for pets, ensuring that the community’s furry family members are included in seasonal celebrations.
Nelson encouraged locals to stop by, explore the store, and share their feedback to help shape the shop’s offerings.
