It stemmed from a motion brought forward by Councillor Adam Veri earlier this year with concerns over Hockey Canada’s open-border rules.
This means kids from Haldimand, Brant, Brantford, and beyond could be putting on a Norfolk jersey and practicing on local ice.
The draft policy was deferred at council’s recent meeting to allow more time for input and fine-tuning.
Duthie said there is no solution that will make everyone happy, but they are working hard to find the best solutions.
Community organizations and residents are encouraged to review the proposed changes and share feedback with their councillors before it returns to the Council-in-Committee meeting in November.
If approved, the updated allocation system would take effect for the next ice season.
