After several weeks of halted mail service across the country, residents can expect to start seeing deliveries resume — but the process will likely be slow.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers moved away from a nationwide strike to rotating strikes over the weekend.
This shift means that while mail and parcels will begin moving again, specific local work stoppages will continue as part of the union’s ongoing negotiations with Canada Post.
The CUPW maintains that its members are fighting against what they call government-backed efforts to “gut our postal service and slash thousands of jobs,” following Canada Post’s most recent contract proposals and the federal government’s September 25 announcement regarding future restructuring.
Despite the limited return to operations, CUPW warns that full service will take time to normalize as sorting and delivery backlogs are cleared.
Discussions between CUPW and the government are expected to continue as the union pushes for fair collective agreements, stronger worker protections, and what it describes as a sustainable public postal service for all Canadians.
