Ontario Premier Doug Ford visited Haldimand-Norfolk on September 30, joining the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation (MCFN) for a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event.
Ford walked side by side with Survivors, families, and community members in Hagersville, paying tribute to children who never came home from residential schools and showing solidarity with those still living with the intergenerational impacts.
The day began with a community walk through town, where participants reflected on the painful legacy of the residential school system and honoured Survivors for their strength and resilience.
Greg Rickford, Ontario’s Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, also joined the event alongside local leaders and allies.
Premier Ford’s attendance placed the spotlight on Haldimand-Norfolk during a day of truth-telling and remembrance.
The gathering reinforced calls for governments and individuals alike to move forward on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, ensuring real progress beyond symbolic gestures.
