Norfolk County will formally observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation today, with a series of closures, service adjustments, and educational opportunities.
The County raised the Survivor Flag at the Administration Building in Simcoe yesterday, where it will remain until October 1.
Several County services will be impacted by the observance. All administration buildings, social services and housing offices, museums, archives, libraries, and recreational facilities will be closed on September 30.
The Simcoe Recreation Centre and Seniors’ Centre will also close October 1, while the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre and other recreation facilities will temporarily close in October to accommodate the Norfolk County Fair.
Ride Norfolk transit and local waste collection will continue on their regular schedules, and transfer stations will remain open.
Residents can find full details about service impacts and contact information for urgent issues at Service.NorfolkCounty.ca.
Norfolk officials say this day provides a vital opportunity for individuals and communities to reflect, learn, and commit to supporting reconciliation efforts across Canada.
