The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has launched a nationwide strike just hours after Ottawa announced the end of most door-to-door mail delivery within the next decade.
The union says the government’s decision is an attack on postal service and workers, and that no new mail will be processed during the job action.
Canada Post says some offices will close and deliveries will halt, though government cheques and live animal shipments already in the system will still be delivered.
Federal mediators remain available, with the labour minister urging both sides to continue working toward a fair resolution.
