A proposal to relocate Leon’s furniture to the former Peavey Mart is on docket this week at council.
Our elected officials are asked to approve a planning amendment to permit the move.
The 1.24-hectare property sits on the north side of Queensway West in a primarily commercial area.
To accommodate the relocation, council would need to approve changes to allow for a large-scale furniture store and revised parking requirements, reducing the standard from one space per 30 square metres to one space per 80 square metres of floor area.
Staff noted that the proposal aligns with the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement and Norfolk’s Official Plan, supporting destination-oriented commercial uses in appropriate locations.
According to the report, the relocation will support the growth of a local business and may generate new tax revenues for the county.
