H-Richard Riegert of Simcoe is celebrating after winning an ONTARIO 49 second prize worth $50,000 in the July 2, 2025 draw.
H-Richard, a retiree, has been a loyal lottery player with OLG for decades. The father of two said he has been playing the same numbers for years but had never won a major prize — until now. “The most I’d ever won before this was $1,000,” he shared.
One day, H-Richard decided to pick up an ONTARIO 49 ticket. He’s now thrilled to tell the story of his first major win. “I was out grocery shopping and decided to check my ticket,” he recounted while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect his windfall. “When the screen read ‘\$50,000,’ I was in shock and disbelief!”
H-Richard texted his son to share the exciting news and later called his daughter. “They were both so happy for me,” he said with a smile. “My son thought it was just great!”
When asked how it felt to win, H-Richard said, “I felt happy and tearful knowing my kids were going to be alright. I don’t care much about myself. I just feel at ease knowing I can support them. I hope their time will come as well someday!”
He plans to put a portion of his winnings in the bank and use some to help out his kids. The winning ticket was purchased at Sobeys on Norfolk Street South in Simcoe.
