Fire crews from across Norfolk County were called to a massive barn fire late Friday afternoon on Concession 6 Townsend, between Highway 24 and Old Highway 24.
The Norfolk County Fire Department says the blaze broke out around 4:40 p.m. in a large outbuilding at the rear of the property.
By the time firefighters arrived, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Crews from Waterford, Port Dover, Teeterville, Simcoe, and Delhi worked together to bring the fire under control.
The operation was wrapped up by 7:30 p.m., with no injuries to civilians or firefighters and no spread to neighbouring structures.
The barn was not used for livestock but stored several vehicles and pieces of machinery, all of which were destroyed.
Damage is estimated at $300,000, and the property was insured.
Because of the extent of the damage, the cause of the fire is officially listed as “undetermined.”
However, investigators emphasized the importance of fire safety around outbuildings, noting that keeping areas clear of excessive outside storage can prevent flames from spreading.
Officials say the homeowner’s precautionary measures helped contain the blaze.
