Norfolk County is reminding residents that leaf and yard waste collection will continue through the end of November, with weekly curbside pickup scheduled across all urban areas.
Collection runs by zones until mid-October.
Zone 1 covers Long Point and Simcoe.
Zone 2 (Port Dover, Langton, and Port Rowan) runs this week.
Zone 3 (Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, and Waterford) is next week.
Starting October 20, collection will no longer run by zone. Instead, all zones will be collected weekly through the end of the season.
Residents are reminded to follow county guidelines: all waste must be placed in brown paper yard bags, rolled shut, weighing no more than 18 kg (40 lbs).
Plastic bags will not be collected.
Brush and branches must be tied in bundles no longer than 91 cm (3 feet), with no plastic twine or metal ties.
For those living outside the three collection zones, leaf and yard waste can be dropped off free of charge at Norfolk’s transfer stations in paper bags or bulk for composting. Loads of brush and branches will still be subject to tipping fees.
Residents are being asked not to rake leaves to the curb or blow leaves onto the roadway.
Norfolk County encourages residents to consider alternatives such as mulching leaves for garden use or composting at home to reduce the amount of yard waste headed to transfer stations.
