Haldimand–Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is pushing back against Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner process, writing in a sharply worded column that municipal leaders are increasingly living in fear of costly investigations.
Brady argues the system is being used as a political weapon, citing examples across the province where single complaints have cost municipalities tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars.
The MPP also addressed her own role in the recent Haldimand County case involving leaked Board of Health merger documents.
Brady said she was improperly pulled into the investigation and ultimately chose to invoke Parliamentary Privilege — a legal protection she described as “commonplace.”
In the Integrity Commissioner’s report, David Boghosian criticized Brady’s decision, calling it “frustrating and disappointing” for residents.
Brady fired back, writing that the Commissioner overstepped by offering opinions on her motives instead of sticking to the facts.
She said accountability is important but warned that the current system creates a “culture of fear” among elected officials, while distracting from urgent issues like homelessness and addictions.
