
Residents of Ohsweken Six Nations First Nation were urged to shelter in place on Saturday morning after reports of a potentially armed and dangerous suspect in the area of Onondaga Road and Sixth Line.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), working with the Six Nations Police Service, issued the advisory at 7:35 a.m. Police asked anyone outdoors to seek shelter, lock doors and windows, and avoid engaging with suspicious individuals. Drivers were also told to stay away from the area.
By 11:10 a.m., police lifted the shelter-in-place order, saying there was no ongoing threat to public safety. A heavy police presence remained as the investigation continued.
The OPP acknowledged the stress such alerts can cause and thanked the community for their cooperation and vigilance. Officials said every precaution was taken to protect residents during the incident.
