MPP Bobbi Ann Brady says she will keep fighting a proposed Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) that would enable Empire Communities to build 15,000 homes at Nanticoke Industrial Park. Brady says thousands of residents in Haldimand and Norfolk oppose the project and want the site focused on industry, including a potential energy project. She argues rapid growth could threaten jobs at Stelco and Imperial Oil and strain Highway 6, health care, schools, and policing—costs she says would fall to taxpayers.
Brady notes a motion by Haldimand County Councillor Brad Adams to rescind council’s past support for an MZO failed in a 4–3 vote on August 26. She says even a few hundred homes are too many and points to Caledonia’s fast growth as a warning.
The MPP is urging residents to sign her “Say No to the MZO” petition and write her office. She plans to press the province until a final provincial decision is made.
