The women of 100 Women Who Care Norfolk have made a meaningful difference with their latest donation. At their August meeting, the group presented $18,500 to the Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice (NHCH). The gift, was presented by Maureen Russell and sponsored by Kathy Caskenette, will fund a special project called Comfort Bags.
The Comfort Bags are designed for children attending bereavement programs after losing a parent or sibling. Each bag includes journals, books, teddy bears, mindfulness tools, and other items chosen by counsellors to support children as they cope with grief. NHCH also hopes to expand the initiative to help adults grieving the loss of a spouse or child.
Operating from offices in Port Dover and Jarvis, NHCH offers one-on-one and group support, wellness sessions, therapy workshops, and children’s day camps. Nearly 500 people used their services in the past year.
All NHCH programs are community-funded, meaning this donation stays right here in Norfolk County.
