As summer events fill local parks and patios, public health officers are reminding residents to keep public spaces smoke and vape-free.
Health Promoter Rebecca Shams, says second-hand smoke is still a public health concern—even outside.
She says there are other factors too.
Shams outlined where smoking and vaping are not allowed.
Under the act, patios, school grounds and transit shelters are also all smoke-and vape-free.
Municipalities can go further.
Some communities have banned smoking and vaping from all parks, trails, beaches, and public gathering spots, while others have restricted the activities to beyond nine metres of municipal buildings.
Shams added that workplace vehicles and food trucks are also included in the restrictions.
Smoking in a vehicle with anyone under 16 is illegal.
