Ontario will ban research testing on dogs and cats.
Premier Doug Ford announced Monday, calling the practice “cruel and unacceptable.”
The decision comes after whistleblowers revealed that puppies were used in cardiac experiments at London’s Lawson Research Institute.
Ford called the individuals “champions” for exposing the practice.
The facility has since halted its testing on dogs, despite saying it followed proper protocols.
St. Joseph’s Health Care confirmed it has ended dog testing after discussions with the province.
Animal Justice welcomed the move, urging further reforms to protect shelter pets from being sold to labs.
