Families in Norfolk County will get a behind-the-scenes look at local farming during Breakfast on the Farm, a unique partnership between Schooley Orchards Limited, Apple Hill Lavender, and the Norfolk Agricultural Society.
Organized by Farm & Food Care Ontario, the event begins at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds, where visitors can enjoy a locally sourced breakfast. The menu includes egg, cheese, and peameal bacon sandwiches, with options for dietary needs, plus milk, apple cider, watermelon, and ice cream. Jennifer Schooley of Schooley Orchards Limited and Apple Hill Lavender notes that breakfast isn’t the only thing awaiting guests at the Fairgrounds.
From there, shuttle buses will take visitors to Schooley Orchards for hands-on, educational experiences. Wagon tours will showcase the farm’s commercial apple orchards, pick-your-own apples, and lavender and medicinal herb fields.
Schooley adds guests will touch historic apple-picking equipment, and learn about the modern technology—like weather stations—used in farming today.
She hopes the event will inspire a deeper appreciation for Ontario-grown food and even spark an interest in agricultural careers among children.
The event also highlights the importance of buying local, showing visitors why Ontario produce can cost more than imports and how strict food safety standards add value.
By combining education, entertainment, and farm-fresh food, Breakfast on the Farm aims to connect people with the farmers who feed them and showcase agriculture’s vital role in the community.
Schooley invites you to come for a delicious, family-friendly event that celebrates local agriculture on August 23rd.
Tickets are $5 per person, with children 12 and under free. Children are free but still require an entry ticket.
