Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Norfolk County, with a multi-day heatwave starting today. Daytime highs are expected to reach 30–35°C, with humidex values of 35–40. Overnight lows will remain warm, between 19–22°C.
Slightly cooler temperatures are expected by mid-next week. Residents are urged to take precautions, as extreme heat can cause serious health risks, especially for older adults, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Symptoms of heat stroke and other heat related illnesses include:
- Dizziness or fainting
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headache
- Rapid breathing and heartbeat
- Extreme thirst
- Decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine
Stay cool by drinking water regularly, avoiding strenuous activity during peak heat, wearing light clothing, and seeking air-conditioned or shaded spaces. Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
