Today is International Cat Day and the Simcoe and District Humane Society is marking the occasion with a heartfelt plea and a special offer: adopt two cats for the price of one.
The one-day is designed to encourage adoptions amid an unprecedented influx of animals at the shelter.
That was Cathie Hosken, President of the Simcoe and District Humane Society.
Hosken says the adoption deal will apply to kittens, adult cats, and even barn buddies — a category of cats better suited to outdoor life on rural properties.
This trend has created a dire need for adopters and foster homes, especially as the shelter fills beyond capacity.
And not just cats.
While the focus of International Cat Day is, naturally, on felines, Hosken emphasized that the need is just as urgent for dogs as well.
The Catahoula puppies who are coming into their care over the weekend are just six weeks old, still dependent, and in desperate need of foster homes.
With that, she wants everyone to understand the timeline involved.
The two for one event adoption is taking place at their shelter on Grigg Drive.
