With summer break halfway through, Haldimand County OPP is reminding families to stay safe and enjoy the rest of the season. Officers have been visiting local summer camps, teaching youth important safety tips, and are now sharing those reminders with the wider community.
Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for increased pedestrian traffic, especially children on scooters, bikes, and skateboards near parks and recreational areas. Always wear your seatbelt and approach crosswalks with caution.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to go over basic safety tips with kids, including proper street crossing, always wearing bike helmets, and never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles. Water safety is also key—supervise swimmers, wear life jackets, and never swim or boat alone.
Online safety matters too—stay connected with your children online to know who they’re talking to.
Let’s work together to keep everyone safe this summer. Visit Young Cyclist Guide for more information.
